Is anyone else getting a little bit excited for fall? I know the joke is that everything pumpkin flavored is about to hit the market. I’m personally alright with that. However, fall is more than just pumpkin spice lattes for me. Fall is also full of apples and cinnamon, pecans and maple, squash and cranberries. What does fall taste and smell like to you? I am curious to know what flavors and scents this season brings out in other households. I used to say spring was my favorite season, but just as the seasons change, so do my opinions. I am really looking forward to fall this year, so much so that it may be my new favorite season….at least for this year. 🙂
Today’s recipe is a little taste of fall but still in summer form. Ice cold flavored water with cinnamon and apples. Cinnamon has a plethora of potential health benefits to include regulating blood sugar, helping heal chronic wounds, help fight against bacterial and fungal infections, and even help the effects of HIV. Now, I cannot say if these are all true, but cinnamon is so tasty, I figure why not add it to my diet when I can?
I am not usually a big fan of flavored waters, I either like my water plain or I just want something else. However, this really “striked my fancy”. My mother in law made it when my husband and I visited her this weekend for her birthday. I tasted it, and immediately took the pitcher out to her beautiful back porch and took photos. This stuff is the real deal. The apples and cinnamon flavored the water in such a way that it was almost comforting in a sense; each sip was mild and refreshing. I hope you enjoy this little taste of fall during the heat of the summer!

- 2 apples (whichever your favorite is, but I don't recommend granny smith as they are not as sweet)
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- Ice
- Slice your apples. You can either slice them long ways or cube them. Any way should work.
- Place apples and cinnamon sticks in a large pitcher. Add ice to about ¾ of the way full in the pitcher.
- Add water to the top.
- Place pitcher in fridge for at least an hour.
- Refill pitcher with water 3-4 times before replacing apples and cinnamon.
