Alright, first things first, do NOT eat this! It will not taste good. It is not meant for human consumption. I realize this is a food blog, but my fridge went out this past weekend and I did not find out until I came home on Sunday….which happens to be my main blogging day. Therefore, I had to chunk a bunch of food. It killed me. I HATE wasting food. I was pretty sore about it; especially since it ruined my planned recipe. I improvised, and made this homemade lotion instead. It turned out pretty awesome! It brightened my spirits and I decided to blog about it and hopefully it will brighten your spirits too!
This DIY lotion is made using coconut oil, Vitamin E, and any scent essential oil you want! I used a divine scented vanilla. I whipped it all together with my hand mixer, and put it in a cute little jar I found at Dollar Tree (love that place). I have been using it daily this week and I have to say, it is really fabulous. Inexpensive too! It makes me feel good knowing I am rubbing a chemical free substance on my skin opposed to the usual lotions I use. I don’t think I will ever go back! The best part? It takes such a small amount! I literally touch my index and middle finger into the jar and rub the oil in my hands to warm it up, then slather it all over my legs and arms. Wait about 5 minutes and it is all soaked in! I smell great too! What more could you ask for?!
Ok, now I have an announcement to make! I would like to bring to your attention that today is my one year Vegiversary! Exactly one year ago today I went cold turkey (pardon the phrase) and stopped consuming meat. I was like many other Americans who are not aware of the factory farming practices in our country. I decided to take a stand and I feel all the better for it! I have done lots of research since then and am now conscious of how a plant based diet is so much better for our planet as well as my own health! Knowledge truly is power! I feel great knowing that my daily practices reflect the issues that matter most to me. So anyways, back to the lotion, but happy Vegiversary to me!
- 1 C coconut oil
- 4 tbs Vitamin E
- Optional: 6-8 drops essential oil
- Combine ingredients in a mixing bowl.
- Mix well with an electric hand mixer until it s nice whipped consistency, about 1 minute.
- Scoop into a jar. Voila! Lasts about 6 months!
- You do NOT need to use a lot. If you do, it will not all be able to absorb into your skin and you will be an oily mess. Less is more. Then it soaks in, leaves you feeling smooth, and smelling fantastic!
